After “Non-Stop,” “Unknown” and three installments of the “Taken” thrillers, I’m not sure that Liam Neeson’s signature avengers are actually good people to know. On the plus side, they’ll use any means necessary to rescue you from kidnappers and killers. But if you’ve been kidnapped or are facing death, it’s probably directly related to knowing Mr. Neeson’s character in the first place, or just being nearby.

영화 <논스톱>, <언노운> 그리고 <테이큰> 세 편의 스릴러 이후, 리암 니슨의 특징이 되버린 복수하는 주인공이 사실 착한 캐릭터는 아닌 것 같다. 긍정적인 관점에서 본다면야, 리암 니슨이 연기하는 인물들은 유괴범이나 킬러로부터 당신을 구하기 위해 필요한 그 어떤 수단도 가리지 않을 것이다. 하지만 만약 당신이 유괴되었거나 죽을 위기에 처했다면, 그 이유는 십중팔구 리암 니슨(이 연기한 인물)을 알고 있기 때문이거나, 아니면 근처에 있었기 때문이다. 

In “Taken 3” — Olivier Megaton’s embarrassingly flat sequel about the retired government agent Bryan Mills (Mr. Neeson) — the agent’s daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace), and his former wife, Lenore (Famke Janssen), run into grief yet again. One dies; the other cries; and it all has something to do with a pale Russian gangster (Sam Spruell) and the latest rich-jerk husband (Dougray Scott) to succeed Bryan.

<테이큰3>에서ㅡ은퇴한 정부요원 브라이언 밀스(리암 니슨)에 대한 올리버 메가톤 감독의 곤혹스러운, 밋밋한 속편ㅡ브라이언 밀스의 딸 킴(매기 그레이스)과 그의 전 부인 레노아(팜킨 얀센)는 또 한번 큰 슬픔을 겪는다. 누군가는 죽고 다른 누군가는 슬피 운다. 그리고 이 모든 것은 창백한 피부의 러시안 조직폭력배(샘 스프루엘)와, 레노아가 가장 최근에 재혼한 부자머저리 남편(더그레이 스콧)과 연관되어 있다.

But there’s little story to speak of, beyond Mr. Neeson’s racing around fighting for the truth, pursued by a Los Angeles detective (Forest Whitaker).

하지만 여기엔 진실을 찾기 위한 리암 니슨의 질주뿐만 아니라, 한 LA 형사(포레스트 휘태커)에 의해 쫓기는 스토리도 있다.

A running fantasy of wronged divorced-dad nobility, the series here continues its ritualized plot points. Mr. Neeson babies Kimmy with a childish gift and balks at some completely normal step in her adulthood. He has a barbecue with the fellas (also veterans of covert ops). He makes a very serio“Taken 3” is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Intense violence and action, and brief strong language.us cellphone call or two, announcing that someone is being taken, or giving very clear directions. He becomes a righteous fugitive whose rampages (up to and including waterboarding) are rationalized through fatherhood.

잘못된 이혼을 한 아빠의 숭고함에 대한 판타지로서, <테이큰> 시리즈는 의례적인 플롯을 따른다. 브라이언 밀스(리암 니슨)의 딸 킴은 성인이 된 뒤 철저하게 평범한 수순에 따라 아이를 갖고, 망설이게 된다. 브라이언 밀스는 마찬가지로 전문요원이거나 비밀요원인 그의 동료들과 바비큐 파티를 한다. 그는 매우 심각한 전화를 두어 번 하며, 누군가가 납치된 것을 설명하거나, 아주 명확한 행동지침을 알려준다. 물고문을 포함한 그의 광란의 질주는 부성애로서 합리화되며, 이로써 그는 정의로운 도망자가 된다.  

More important, Mr. Megaton’s direction of action sequences borders on atrocious. Ragged camerawork and editing ruin freeway car chases and hand-to-hand combat alike.

더 중요한 것은, 올리비에 메가톤 감독이 지시하는 액션은, 그 시퀀스들이 잔혹함의 경계에 있다는 점이다. 엉성한 카메라워크와 편집은 고속도로에서의 자동차 추격전을 망쳐버린다. 백병전에서도 마찬가지다.

The logy screenplay, by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, sags under head-clutchingly banal dramatic scenes. Only Mr. Neeson’s appeal somehow survives unscathed, perhaps the most impressive stunt of all.

  뤽 베송과 로버트 마크 케이먼의 각본은 진부한 드라마로 축 늘어져버렸다. (*head-clutchingly 해석을 못함) 
그저 리암 니슨이 그럭저럭 다치지 않고 살아남는 것이 가장 인상적인 액션일 뿐이다. (*의역..)
