TWO of the Duchess of Cambridge's hats each fetched over double their estimated asking prices at an auction held in Bermondsey yesterday.

The Philip Somerville black and white hat, worn by the Duchess to Prince William's Order of the Garter presentation in June 2008, was sold for £3,120 - compared to its £1,000 - £1,500 estimate; while the black Aurora hat, seen on the 30-year-old royal at friendHarry Meade's wedding in October 2010, went for £3,600 - rather than its £1,000 - £1,500 estimate. Both hats, bought by an American bidder, were borrowed for the occasions.
